After 31 years of dedicated service as the Broken Arrow Director of Bands, Executive Director of Fine Arts Darrin Davis recently conducted his final concert. On the same night, the program received the prestigious Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. ArrowVision’s Madison Dilldine recently caught up with Mr. Davis and walked 100+ yards on Tiger Field where Mr. Davis has spent countless hours over his storied career. Check out the video! Davis has been instrumental in shaping the lives of countless students through his passion for music and dedication to excellence. Under his leadership, the Broken Arrow band program has achieved numerous accolades and earned a reputation for regional and national excellence. As a Broken Arrow band director, Davis has seen the Pride of Broken Arrow earn an impressive four Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Championships, 21 BOA Regional Championships, 24 Oklahoma State Marching Championships; along with appearances in three Tournament of Roses Parades and the 2005 Presidential Inauguration Parade. Concert ensembles under Davis’ direction have performed at prestigious events such as the American Bandmasters Association Convention, the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Carnegie Hall, Music for All Regional and National Festivals, and six times as a featured honor band at the Oklahoma Music Educators Convention. Davis is a highly decorated music educator with his election to the American Bandmasters Association, the Bands of America Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Hall of Fame. Dr. Kelli Pence will assume the role of Broken Arrow band director, but Davis will remain actively involved in the fine arts programming for the district. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have served as a band director at Broken Arrow High School for over three decades,” said Davis. “I am honored to now devote my complete focus to the role of Executive Director of Fine Arts and continue supporting the arts.”
